Sea Trek Tour

Ziggy’s Bar and Grill launches innovative underwater Sea Trek Tours

Monday December 03 2007 by Akedia Christopher

Popular beach bar, Ziggy’s Bar and Grill, located at the strip, Frigate Bay, last Saturday launched its innovative underwater Sea Trek Tours in celebration of their first anniversary.

Owner/Operator of the bar, Ryan Schlosser, explained that the new activity is unlike any other accustomed sea adventure such as snorkelling and deep sea diving.

He said Sea Trek is an underwater helmet diving experience in the form of a tour.

Schlosser explained, that “instead of diving or snorkelling… it’s like an in between thing, we take you out on a platform out in front of Bird Rock reef area, there you walk down a ladder you wear a helmet on your head with supplied air from the surface and you go into 30 feet of water… and you just walk around in the bottom of the ocean and it's very safe…

“It’s been done all over the world in Malaysia, Japan, Cayman Islands, Aruba” and many other areas in the world.

He additionally stated that the location they identified for the tours “is beautiful, there is everything you could ever want to see under there.”

According to Schlosser, “We make sure that while we are down there doing the Sea Trek that nothing is being hurt, the reef, none of the sea life, we don’t harm anything down there.”

And they intend to stay true to their saying ‘take nothing but memories, leave only bubbles’ in hope of protecting the life form in the ocean.

He also told the SUN that the experience is good for people who have never seen under the ocean and those who are somewhat scared and can not swim.

He thinks that the initiative is a good way for individuals to explore the bottom of the ocean without fear.

Schlosser stated that the tours should be in full operation in another week or so and that it caters for nine individuals maxim

Great review Liz. I was out with Guy on the diving platform and hope to get to go down before I leave monday.

It all looks fantastic, not to be missed.  Cool

Well the Sea Trek in Saint Kitts is now firmly set as part of the list of things you 'MUST' do when visiting St Kitts. Guy and Cindy how now got everything set up and running smoothly.

Check out what some of the 'Walkers' have said about their experiences.

From Cindy, $70.00US, it takes about 1 1/2 hours from start to finish. 15 minute boat ride to site, a short orientation and down to the ocean floor for about 25 minutes, then the boat ride back to the dock.

Thanks for posting some more info Liz.

I'm in Europe on business at the moment so haven't had time to chase up Guy for all the facts and prices. I do know that Guy takes a 'Large' cooler out with him and his Sea Trek visitors from the refreshment side of things.

I'll be back towards the end of February and will be taking lots of photos for everyone to see more of the details of the Sea Trek Adventure.

Recent Review of Sea Trek

"My first-hand report on Sea Trek in St. Kitts: Awesome!

I just got back from an amazing week in St. Kitts and my girlfriend and I took the plunge and tried Sea Trek. Neither of us were SCUBA certified, so Sea Trek seemed like the next best thing. It really is an amazing experience and couldn't be much more simple. I am very comfortable in the water, but my girlfriend just recently learned to swim. In either case, we both had a great time and familiarity with the water (or lack thereof) is not an issue. As they say, if you can walk you can Sea Trek! We had never done anything like it before, but it was an experience of a lifetime.

I had actually emailed them prior to us going to St. Kitts, but I didn't realize it was run by the people at Ziggy's until we just happened to stop by for a Carib & lunch and had a chance to talk to Mike (one of the divers). In spite of all of this, we almost didn't get the chance to Trek as we let other adventures, fun, and laziness get in the way of actually booking a time to go. Fortunately, they were able to get us in during our last full day on the island. I'm glad they did. Mike & his wife Sam are naturals at the job due to their outgoing personalities, professionalism, and (of course) dive training. We also met one of the owners, Cindy, and her son Ryan, whom we met at Ziggy's & it was a short, picturesque boat ride to the dive platform.

Once at the platform, Mike gave us a detailed rundown of what we were going to be doing as well as safety features, procedures, etc. Next, it was time to don the helmet breathing unit (easier than putting on a motorcycle helmet) and climb down the ladder to the ocean floor about 30 feet or so below. We walked along a reef and interacted with a number of different species of fish (tons of fish) and explored the area for about a half hour. Walking on the ocean floor felt like what walking on the moon might be like. Gravity holds you to the ocean floor, but when you jump, you take a lot longer coming back down. Fun stuff & highly recommended. The cost is relatively minimal at $70 per person. I paid $75 per person because I booked through the Marriott (because I was an idiot and lost SeaTrek's contact information), but compared with what you'd pay for SCUBA lessons, gear, boat rental, etc ... this was well worth the expense. Two words: Do it!"
